Hi, we are Milan and Marija! We are the people behind Learn Serbian Online. Between classes, designing learning materials, and recording for social media, we are thankful to be able to teach the way we believe adult students really learn. Years of training and working online taught us how to build our student’s motivation, follow their curiosity and adapt to their speed.

We built Learn Serbian Online on a premise that your time, money and most of importantly your motivation are limited resources. Every class is meticulously planned: you learn words and grammar you can use right away, every day. Scheduling follows your routine and we keep in touch between classes.

Marija Bukvić
Co-Founder & Head of Instruction
Languages have always felt like home to me, but I truly discovered my passion for them while studying at the University of Belgrade’s Faculty of Philology. After completing my Bachelor’s degree in Slavic Studies (focusing on Slovak and Russian), I chose to specialize further, earning my Master’s degree in Teaching Serbian as a Foreign Language.
Throughout my academic career, I found myself captivated by a single, powerful question: How can we best teach our native language to someone who views the world through a completely different linguistic and cultural lens? Guided by a natural interest in psychology, I came to realize that mastering a language is so much more than memorizing grammar and vocabulary. It is about understanding how we think, connect, and express our inner selves. Because every student processes the world uniquely, recognizing and adapting to those individual differences is at the very heart of my teaching philosophy.
In our sessions, my primary goal is to cultivate a warm, supportive atmosphere where you feel entirely comfortable speaking, asking questions, and making mistakes as you grow. I view language acquisition as a beautiful, collaborative partnership: I provide the structure, premium guidance, and encouragement, while helping you break through any barriers standing in the way of your confident communication.
Intriguingly, alongside Serbian, I also teach beginner piano lessons. To me, music is just another profound form of expression, feeding into the question that inspires everything I do: How do we truly communicate with one another?
What I enjoy most about our 1-on-1 format is the privilege of getting to know people from diverse cultures and walks of life. Every learner brings a unique perspective to the table, and through our conversations, I don't just help you unlock the Serbian language – I continuously deepen my own love for human connection and communication. I look forward to guiding you on this journey!

Meet the Founder
Hello and welcome!
My journey with this beautiful language began at the University of Belgrade’s Faculty of Philology, where I immersed myself in Serbian Language, Literature, and General Linguistics. What started as a side hustle during my senior year quickly blossomed into a lifelong passion. Today, teaching Serbian to people from every corner of the globe is what makes me feel like a true citizen of the world. In fact, I’ve set a personal goal for myself: to connect with at least one person from every single country on Earth through Learn Serbian Online before I turn fifty!
With over a decade of experience teaching in one of Serbia’s top-tier high schools and leading numerous educational projects, I love bridging the gap between formal academic rigor and creative, non-formal learning. My journey has allowed me to join the Microsoft Innovative Educator cohort in 2015, become a proud Fulbright Alumnus in 2019, and advocate passionately for a humanistic, student-centered approach to digital learning. Having designed educational games, I firmly believe that joy and curiosity are the ultimate catalysts for mastering something new.
